Story should have been on front page

DEAR EDITOR:

I have been a faithful reader of the Youngstown Vindicator ever since | moved back to the Valley from Cleveland in 1980. All in all, I think you do a decent job although there are certain things I disagree with.

In the Weekend Edition for this past Saturday / Sunday, Jan. 4-5, I noticed the story on page A14 titled “Girard veteran awarded Medal of Honor.” Any time someone from the Mahoning Valley receives such a great honor, I think it should be on page 1 of your newspaper.

I realize there is only so much space on page 1 and therefore a story or two stories that appeared on page 1 would have to be moved. I think that the story titled “The Federal project gets study on its feasibility” and the story “Troubled bar faces eviction suit” should both have been moved to some other page and the story honoring the Girard veteran should have been on the first page.

I think either of those two stories that were on the first page could have easily been put on the first page on some other edition of the paper.

I do not know the recipient of the medal. I was in the service but I never served in Vietnam. Nonetheless, I am truly moved whenever I see someone receiving an honor of this type and I think the Vindicator should have done a better job of placing the story where it would have been seen by more people.
