Libraries provide so much for communities
DEAR EDITOR:
In our recent world of chaos, I am compelled to write this plea to save the life of our libraries across the state of Ohio. It has come to my attention that the Ohio House Legislature intends to reduce major funding to the valued, rich and intellectual growth of our communities — our libraries.
By cutting these funds, this budget will threaten the library’s great services such as access to technology centers, tax help, tutorials, hubs for economic progress, job search opportunities, educational programs for children, teens and adults, and especially senior citizens.
This budget will sever the lifelines of literacy that Gov. and Mrs. DeWine support, which was shown by their various Read-aLouds to many children throughout the state. It will also deter communications and accessibility, possibly causing isolation and ignorance with and about the rest of the world.
Ultimately, communities through their libraries keep the pulse of a global heartbeat. The wealth of information and research at a library goes beyond a Google search.
Again, the Ohio House budget will endanger communities by leading them into the dark ages or worse, extinction of resources, knowledge and an outreach for common men and women. In essence, this is a nightmare!
Hopefully, you will not be deaf to this cry of urgency, “Don’t cut my library!” and keep our libraries safe, prosperous and alive.
It is a workforce that encourages and develops a force of work, affecting every person’s ability to live a good quality of life.
