High school scoreboard (Oct. 27, 2024): Nine teams take home district championships

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

McDonald 3, Mineral Ridge 0 — McDonald defeated Mineral Ridge 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-22) to win the Division VI, Northeast 3 district championship on Saturday. Gianna Constantino led the Blue Devils with 11 kills, 11 digs and four aces, while Ava Salomone had 21 assists, Miley Titus had 21 digs and Cierra Shiley had seven kills. Titus also reached 1,000 career digs in the match. For the Rams, Ava Hulett finished with 24 digs and 19 kills, while Gianna Wilson had eight kills and seven digs and Sullivan Sandy had 25 assists.

Norton 3, West Branch 1 — Norton defeated West Branch 3-1 (15-25, 21-25, 25-20, 18-25) in the Division IV, Northeast 2 district final on Saturday. The Warriors finished as the district runner up. No stats were provided.

Lakeview 3, Cleveland Heights Beaumont 1 — Lakeview downed Cleveland Heights Beaumont 3-1 (25-20, 25-10, 18-25, 25-23) 3-1 on Saturday to capture the Division IV, Northeast 5 district title. It was the Bulldogs’ first district championship in program history. Reagan Price led Lakeview with 19 kills and eight blocks. Mallory Mailach contributed 44 assists and four aces, while Molly Stuart had 18 kills and 20 digs and Mara Schmader had 20 digs.

Austintown Fitch 3, Amherst Steele 2 — Austintown Fitch held off Amherst Steele 3-2 (24-26, 13-25, 25-12, 25-20, 15-12) on Saturday, rallying back from two sets down to win the Division II, Northeast 7 district championship. It was the Falcons first district title since 2005. With 20 digs in the match Izzy DiRenzo broke the school record for digs in a single season. Kylie Folkwein had 19 kills and 11 digs, as Morgan Roby came up with six kills and 18 digs, Rylie Simons had 44 assists and 19 digs, Katie Wilt had 13 kills and six digs and Kaliana Ray had seven kills and three blocks.

Mogadore Field 2, Cardinal Mooney 1 (OT) — Mogadore Field held off Cardinal Mooney 2-1 in overtime on Saturday in the Division IV, Northeast 1 district title game. The Cardinals finish the season as district runner up. No additional stats were provided.

Poland 5, Chagrin Falls 0 — Poland eased past Chagrin Falls 5-0 on Saturday to win the Division IV, Northeast 3 district championship. Andreas Tsikouris led the Bulldogs with three goals, as Jacob Hayes and Michael Hostel each scored, as well. Hayes and Colin McBride each had two assists for Poland. The Bulldogs had 10 saves in goal.

Richfield Revere 2, Howland 1 (OT) — Howland fell 2-1 in overtime to Richfield Revere on Saturday in the Division III, Northeast 3 district title game. The Tigers finish the season as district runner up. No additional stats were provided.

University School 0, Canfield 0 (4-3 SO) — After being scoreless through regulation and two overtimes, University School defeated Canfield 4-3 in a penalty shootout in the Division III, Northeast 1 district title game on Saturday. The Cardinals end the season as district runner up. No additional stats were provided.

North Ridgeville 2, Austintown Fitch 1 — Austintown Fitch fell 2-1 to North Ridgeville on Saturday in the Division II, Northeast 2 district title match on Saturday. The Falcons finish the season as district runner up. No additional stats were provided.

United 4, Warren JFK 3 (2OT) — United survived 4-3 against Warren JFK on Saturday in a double-overtime thriller to win the Division V, Northeast 1 district title. The Eagles finished as district runner up. Maddox Andrea, Jude Andrea and Jase Medure scored goals for the Golden Eagles, while Dom Ryan, Nick Ryan and Gio Femia had goals for the Eagles.

Kidron Central Christian 5, Champion 1 — Kidron Central Christian beat Champion 5-1 on Saturday in the Division V, Northeast 4 district title match. The Golden Flashes finished the season as district runner up. Champion’s lone goal was scored by Hunter Maylone.

Hubbard 2, Niles 1 (OT) — Hubbard held on in overtime to knock off Niles 2-1 to win the Division IV, Northeast 5 district championship on Saturday. Addy Manzo scored the game-winning goal in overtime, which gave the Eagles their first district title since 2001. No additional stats were provided.

West Branch 6, Southeast 0 — West Branch cruised past Southeast 6-0 on Saturday to win the Division IV, Northeast 1 district championship. It is the Warriors’ second district title in program history. Allie Brammer led the Warriors with two goals, while Presley Egli, Alinee Bacconi, Emma Klingensmith and Caidee Schroeder each scored a goal, as well. Klingensmith also finished with two assists. Hailie Singer and Cambrie Nezbeth each also provided an assist.

Warren JFK 4, Willoughby Andrews Osborne 3 (OT) — Warren JFK fended off Andrews Osborne 4-3 in overtime to capture the Division V, Northeast 1 district championship on Saturday. Didi Ryan scored three goals for the Eagles, including the game-winning goal in overtime. Addy Odille scored a goal and had an assist. Shayna Massacci, Laney Condoleon and Kaylee Gordon each had an assist for the Eagles, while Riley Curd had 10 saves in goal.

Cardinal Mooney 1, Smithville 0 — Cardinal Mooney took down Smithville 1-0 on Saturday to win the Division V, Northeast 2 district championship on Saturday. Julia Diorio scored the game’s lone goal, which was assisted by Sophia Dibo.

Poland 3, Oberlin Firelands 2 — Poland edged Oberlin Firelands 3-2 on Saturday to win the Division IV, Northeast 2 district championship. No additional stats were provided.

Berkshire 7, Champion 0 — Burton Berkshire defeated Champion 7-0 in the Division V, Northeast 4 district title match on Saturday. The Golden Flashes finish the season as district runner up. No additional stats were provided.
