YSU men fall to Stephen F. Austin to close out multi-team event
Youngstown State concluded its three-game slate at Stephen F. Austin’s multi-team event on Saturday.
After splitting the first two games against Monmouth and Presbyterian, the Penguins fell to the Lumberjacks 64-57 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Nico Galette was one of two Penguins to score in double figures, finishing with 20 points to lead all scorers. Ty Harper was the other double-figure scorer with 11 points. EJ Farmer also chipped in nine points.
YSU (2-4) raced ahead to an 11-point lead over the first 11 minutes after hitting eight of its first 15 shots. But Stephen F. Austin (4-3) closed out the first half with a 17-0 run to take a 30-24 lead into halftime. The Lumberjacks were able to keep the Penguins at arm’s length throughout the duration of the second half.
While the Lumberjacks shot 47.7% from the floor, they turned the ball over 22 times against YSU’s defense. But, Stephen F. Austin dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Penguins 41-26.
The Lumberjacks had four players score in double figures, led by Nano Antwi-Boasiako with 14 points.
After playing its first six games of the season on the road, YSU returns to Youngstown for its home opener on Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Western Michigan.
