Harding’s Coleman named Trumbull County POTY
HOWLAND – There weren’t too many times Chaz Coleman came off the field for the Warren G. Harding football team.
He powered the Raiders’ offense as the quarterback, led the defense on the edge at outside linebacker and even contributed on special teams as the punter.
That resume from the 2024 season resulted in the senior being named the Trumbull County Coaches Association Player of the Year. The award presentation was Monday night at Leo’s Ristorante in Howland.
“This year’s been crazy, especially with a new head coach. … I just had chemistry with the team,” Coleman said. “I’m thankful to my teammates. They put me in this position.”
Coleman ran for 740 and seven touchdowns, and he threw for 760 yards and 10 TDs. He also caught two touchdowns as a receiver.
Defensively, he made 75 tackles, 17 for loss, 10 sacks, 21 quarterback hurries, 3 interceptions – including one returned for a TD – with nine forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
“Definitely a phenomenal kid, a phenomenal leader,” Harding head coach Matt Richardson said. “The growth I’ve seen since I got the job till now, I’m just proud of him and can’t wait to see the growth goes on to Penn State and does his thing.”
Richardson credited Coleman for his work with the team, and said players like his 6-foot, 5-inch athlete are valuable to a first-year head coach.
“I just hope that we grew together,” Richardson said. “I learned some things working with him that will help me with the program going on, and I hope he learned some things from me. Just being a better man, who will go on to do bigger and better things.”
Coleman’s memorable week will continue on Wednesday. He will join teammates Steven Sims, Airiz Coleman-Bey when they sign their letters of intent for college football.
Coleman will continue his football career at Penn State.
“It’s gonna be a crazy week,” Coleman said. “I’m gonna remember, but I gotta lock in when I go to college.”
