BOYS BASKETBALL

Poland 51, Niles 43 — The Bulldogs claimed the lead heading into intermission and never relinquished it to earn the win over the Red Dragons. Carmine Tukalo led Poland with 16 points and Michael Daley added 12 points to assist in the win. Joey Lehman tallied 14 points to lead Niles in the loss.

Kennedy 68, St. Thomas Aquinas 52 — The Eagles were unrelenting in the second half to claim their fifth-consecutive win of the season over the Knights. Nick Ryan exploded for 30 points while Henry Phillips added 11 to level the Kennedy leading scorers. Jamar Keyes tallied 26 for the Knights in the loss.

Mathews 89, St. John 75 — The Mustangs dominated from the first quarter on to earn the win over the Fighting Heralds. A game-high, 39-point eruption from Dom Toto, including 14 from the charity stripe, led Mathews to the victory, while Jake Petak tallied 18 and Logan Linkesh added 16 to round out the Mustangs leading scorers. In the loss, Vin Narducci led St. John with 21 points, Gray Petros was right behind with 20 points, Dyln Newsome recorded 16 and Chase Newsome tallied 11.

Lisbon 67, East Palestine 52 — Consistent scoring from Lisbon made the difference as the Blue Devils downed the Bulldogs Friday evening. Much of Lisbon’s offense came from AJ Ramgeet, who tallied 30 points on 13 field goals and four free throws. Blaine Barnes claimed 13 points for Lisbon and Aiden Ramgeet added 10. In the loss, Owen Jurjavcic tallied a team-high 17 points and Kyler Bourne added 14 for East Palestine.

Cardinal Mooney 62, Fitch 51 — Thanks in part to a 22-point third quarter, the Cardinals topped the Falcons in a battle of the birds Friday night. Nico Genova led Mooney with 19 points, drilling four three-point shots along the way. Dom Lenow added 15 points and Dante Turner collected 12 points to round out Mooney’s leading scorers. In the loss, E.J. Giles posted 14 points for Fitch.

Columbiana 76, Southern 71 — The Indians fought tooth and nail in the second half but came up short as the Clippers claimed the high-scoring affair. Columbiana’s Cooper Brown drilled four shots from beyond the arc on his way to a 25-point night, while Seth Struharik added a trio of triples in his 18 points scored and hunter Devanzo collected 10 points to round out the Columbiana leading scorers. In the loss, freshman Braxton Sloan exploded for 30 points and was perfect from the free throw line to lead all scorers. Southern was also led by Landen Heffner’s 18 points and Mason Pitts’ 17 points.

Grand Valley 63, Chalker 29 — The Mustangs’ hot streak continued with a dominant win over the Wildcats. Grand Valley improves to 6-0 thanks to strong performances by Carter Turk, Solly Schultz and Braden Hart who each scored 19, 13 and 15 points, respectively. For Chalker in the loss, Z. Pack and Nicholas Karr each tallied six points to lead the Wildcats.

Maplewood 48, Lordstown 38 — The Rockets snapped a four-game skid with a 10 point win over the Red Devils Friday night. Steve Manes led all scorers with 15 points for Maplewood to bolster the final number on the scoreboard. For Lordstown, Ganon Force and Seth Chambers led the way with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Howland 49, Harding 43 — The Raiders clawed back but fell just a little short as the Tigers claimed the close win. Maya Kubancsek tallied 13 points for Howland in the win to lead the team and all scorers, while the duo of Mia Thomas and Sophia Powell each had 12 points. In the loss, Harding’s Trinity Taylor and Akeelah Barnes led with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Springfield 49, Sebring 14 — The Tigers’ explosive first quarter set the tone for Friday night’s matchup with the Trojans as Springfield cruised to the victory. Nearly all on the Springfield roster tallied a bucket, but Mariana Tuscano led with nine points. Alli Hoschar and Reagan Wynn had identical nights, tallying seven points each for Sebring in the loss.

LaBrae 56, Brookfield 28 — Twenty-one points in the third quarter willed the Vikings to the crushing win over the Warriors. Riley Rowe tallied 15 points Friday night, seven of which came from the free-throw line, and Marissa Levensky tallied 13 points — also making seven from the charity stripe. In the loss, Mya Jumper drilled a pair of shots from beyond the arc and sank five free throws to lead Brookfield with 11 points.

Southeast 58, Champion 26 — An explosive first quarter proved difficult for the Golden Flashes to get past as the Pirates steamrolled to the win. Kayla Grope led all scorers with 12 points for Southeast and Jenna Canale added 10 more to round out the team’s leading scorers. For Champion, Natalie Yako led with eight points in the loss.

Poland 45, Niles 35 — A strong second half performance propelled Poland to the win over Niles Friday night. Lucy Harrell and Elliana Thompson both shouldered leading scorer responsibilities for the Bulldogs with 13 points each to lead the team, while Lily McDonald added 10 points. In the loss, Kherington Stanford led all scorers with 15 points for the Red Dragons.
