BOYS BASKETBALL

Austintown Fitch 38, Lake 23 — At Fitch, the Falcons outscored Lake 25-13 in the first and fourth quarters. E.J. Giles was the top scorer for Fitch, finishing with 10 points, and Marcel Finkley was right behind with nine.

Ursuline 64, Hilliard 56 — At the Holiday Hoopla tournament in Columbus, Da’Shaun Will dropped 23 points to lead the Irish. Noah Bell scored 15 points, and Jaylen Gunther chipped in nine points. The Irish held Hilliard to three points in the third quarter.

Elyria 87, Cardinal Mooney 66 — The Cardinals just didn’t have enough firepower to keep up with Elyria. Mooney got 19 points from Dom Letlow and 18 from Nico Genova, and Kingston Powell had nine points. However, Elyria had four players in double figures, including a 24-point scorer and a 20-point scorer.

Poland 66, Springfield 46 — At Springfield, the Bulldogs held an 11-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, but they blew the game open by outsourcing the Tigers 26-14 in the second. Brady Kendall led Poland with 15 points, and Nick Nitoli had 14. Springfield’s Carson Cunningham led all scorers with 21 points while Isaac LaMorticella added 10.

Campbell 85, Jackson-Milton 58 — At Campbell, Ryen Romigh scored 25 points for the Blue Jays, and Croyle had 10. Red Devil stats were not provided.

Brookfield 62, Wilmington (Pa.) 20 — The Warriors picked up a win over a Mercer County opponent. Blake Hammond led the Warriors with 12 points, and he had four steals. Cody Davidson had five points and four assists, Judah DeJoy had eight points and eight rebounds and Brandon Hardman scored eight points.

Columbiana 51, Brooke (W.Va.) 41 — At Toronto High School, the Clippers came away with a win over an out-of-state opponent. They used a 31-point fourth quarter to create a comfortable lead. Cooper Brown led the Clippers with 20 points, and Seth Struharik added 11.

Crestview 53, Pittsburgh Christian Academy 20 — The Rebel defense came to play, with Crestview holding PCA to two points combined in the second and third quarters. Evan Neff had 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks, Tanner Guy added 12 points and eight rebounds and Tyler Savage scored 10 points with three boards and four steals.

Grand Valley 78, Conneaut 49 — The Mustangs improved to 8-0 on the season. A 29-point third quarter gave the Mustangs a 64-36 lead heading into the fourth. Carter Turk led all scorers with 22 points, Braden Hart scored 17 and Solly Schultz added 15.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Beaver Local 44, Boardman 41 — At Beaver Local, the Spartans (4-6) started strong, scoring 19 points in the first quarter. But the offensive output dropped off. Sarah Bero led the Spartans with 16 points, Mikayla Rivera contributed 13 points and Ava Freeborough chipped in eight.

LaBrae 39, Girard 36 — At Girard High School, the Indians trailed 12-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Vikings got 11-point performances out of Marissa Levensky and Riley Rowe. Ally Magoulick provided eight points as a third scoring threat, the difference on the scoresheet. Caylee Wilkes and Aly Gassman powered the Indians’ offense. Wilkes led all scorers with 16 points, and Gassman had 15.

Mathews 40, East Palestine 31 — The Mustangs jumped on the Bulldogs early by outsourcing them 10-2 in the first quarter. Rilee Paddock went off, scoring 25 points to drive the Mustangs. Isabella DelGarbino provided seven points to balance some of the scoring. Jacklyn Ogle led the Bulldogs with eight points, and Emma Gingher and Sydney Jurjavcic each scored six.

McDonald 63, Windham 25 — The Blue Devils got going early and took a 33-11 lead into the halftime break. Grace Callow had the shooting touch, knocking down five 3-points on her way to 21 points. Julianna Krumpak had 13, and Maddie Homa and Cierra Shiley each had 10 points. Makenna Jones led the Bombers with 11 points.

Howland 61, Hathaway Brown 28 — The Tigers had a trio of double-digit scores, with Sophia Powell leading the charge with 16 points. Maya Kubancsek scored 15 points, and Mary Moy pitched in 12.

WRESTLING

FITCH, SOUTH RANGE TAKE ON MIT

Austintown Fitch and South Range competed at the Medina Invitational Tournament over the weekend, with the Falcons (112.5 points) and Raiders (60 points) finishing sixth and 28th, respectively, among more than 50 teams. Fitch 190-pounder Devin Phillips won the title at his weight class by defeating Rootstown’s Brian Youngblood in the final 15-6. Other local placers included Fitch’s Chayce Kemble (106 pounds, sixth place), Evan Protopapa (132 pounds, eighth place) and Noah Bolen (285 pounds, sixth place), as well as South Range’s Tyson Seesholtz (150 pounds, second place) and Patrick Lally (215 pounds, eighth place).

MINERAL RIDGE COMPETES AT FESTIVUS TOURNAMENT

Jonny Culp picked up three pinfall wins on his way to a fifth-place finish. Kooper Klasic added two wins by pinfall while finishing ninth, and Jackson Nance earned another win while coming in 12th. Giann Caputo registered a pin against a male opponent and finished eighth in her division. Colin Koniowski picked up his first pin of the season, and Sophia Bowman scored but came up short.

BURNS TAKES 2ND IN EAST LIVERPOOL

Howland’s Madison Burns was the runner-up at the East Liverpool Queen of HIll Wrestling Tournament. She went 2-1 on the day, picking up a pair of wins via pinfall.
