‘Fight Night 5’ set for Struthers Fieldhouse
STRUTHERS – A 15-bout, all-amateur fight card, presented by Paolone-n-Burnside Boxing, is set for Feb. 1 at Struthers Fieldhouse.
Titled “Fight Night 5,” the card will feature Struthers native Austin “The Bull” Gibson, of Burnside Boxing Club, going up against undefeated Tyler James of Cleveland in the 147-pound main event while Charles Murray, of London, is set to take on Caleb Rivera, of New York City, in the 165-pound co-main.
“Our main attraction between Austin Gibson and Tyler James should be a good one while the co-main, featuring Charles Murray and Caleb Rivera, will pit two veteran fighters against one another,” promoter and trainer Keith Burnside said. “Eight local fighters are on the card, 22 hail from the state of Ohio, with fighters from New York City, Pittsburgh, Springfield, Missouri, and twins Chares and Henry Murray of London, England, also set to do battle. It is an exciting time, all bouts are evenly matched, with each fighter chomping at the bit and ready to get into the ring.”
Gibson is 25 years-old and a veteran of 12 fights while James, a 30 year-old hopeful, is undefeated in 10 amateur bouts.
This is the second time in as many cards that the Murray twins have come across the pond to fight for Burnside, with Charles considered one of the hardest punchers on the slate and Henry a tactician between the ropes.
In addition to Gibson, Burnside will enter his son and local crowd pleaser, Keith Jr., and Aiden “The Technician” St. Clair. Jack Loew’s South Side Boxing Club is sending hard punching Chris Vass, a Cardinal Mooney football standout, Dontrail Burks and Shaleek Cooke. Kavon Cotton represents Tom Cordell and Sam Calderon’s Golden String Boxing, while Juan Jauregui is trained by former middleweight champion of the world, Kelly Pavlik.
Burnside will take on Cleveland’s Deron Lucky in a 147-pound pairing, St. Clair and Nicholas “Old School” Jackson, of Ashtabula, will open the show when they battle at 180-pounds. Vass, who has three fights under his belt, and Andierys Gomez, who will be making his third ring appearance, are 15 year-olds scheduled to meet in a 132-pound scrap.
Burks goes up against Javian Adamas, of Springfield, Missouri, in a 115-pound match-up, Cooke will take on Cleveland’s Devon Harris at 156 pounds, Cotton and Javen Woods are both veterans of 18 fights and will meet at 135 pounds, while Jauregui is set to entertain Brandon Beck, of Cleveland, in a 128-pound pairing.
Jauregui is 15 years old and has had 15 fights while Beck is 14 years old, and like the Murray twins, is considered a show veteran with all three boxers making their 27th ring appearance.
In addition to the four local gyms, other fighters comprising the card hail from Akron (three), Alliance, Ashtabula (two), Canton (three) and Cleveland (five) in Ohio, and New York City, Pittsburgh (two), Springfield, Missouri (three) and London, England (two).
A rematch between super heavyweights will pit Joe “Big Country” Davis, of Ashtabula, as he goes up against Nate Goodwin, of Canton.
General Admission is $20 with tables of eight available for $200, $300 and $400.
Doors open at 6 p.m., with the first fight hitting the bell at 7 p.m.
Tickets are available at Austintown Pawn, 3200 Mahoning Avenue or by calling 330-792-7001.
