BOYS BASKETBALL

South Range 72, Columbiana 52 — Led by 24 points from Luke Rohan, South Range eased to a 20-point victory over nearby Columbiana on Saturday. Gaven Nagy also contributed 8 points for the Raiders, while Seth Struharik had a team-high 24 points for the Clippers. Luca Cagliuso added 10 points for Columbiana.

Medina Highland 57, Austintown Fitch 53, OT — Austintown Fitch battled with Medina Highland in a back-and-forth affair, but the Falcons couldn’t overcome Highland in overtime, falling 57-53 on Saturday. Marcel Finkley and Carter Owens combined for six 3-pointers for the Falcons. Finkley scored 20 points to go along with 15 points from Owens. Zach Butcher led Highland with 20 points.

Canfield 56, Green 49 — Green had an upset on its mind in a tight game, but Canfield held on late to beat the Bulldogs 56-49 on Sunday. Bryce Roberts had 18 points to lead the Cardinals, while Landon Shina added 10 and Ben Weaver finished with 9. Ethan Weirich led Green with 15 points, to go along with 11 points from Angelo Fortunato

Brookfield 50, Mathews 44 — A decisive second quarter helped lift Brookfield to a 50-44 victory over Mathews on Saturday. Blake Hammond provided the brunt of the offense for the Warriors with 22 points, to go with 8 points from Teagan Barbe. The tandem of Jake Petak and Dom Toto led the Mustangs with 11 and 13 points, respectively.

Leetonia 40, Jackson-Milton 37 — Leetonia shook off a five-game losing streak to get past Jackson-Milton 40-37 on Saturday. Dylan Johns scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Bears. The Bluejays had two players in double figures, including Vincent Fay with 16 points and Ryen Romigh with 10 points.

Lowellville 59, Crestview 42 — A balanced scoring effort helped lift Lowellville to a 59-42 victory over Crestview on Saturday. Drew Modelski had 17 points for the Rockets, to go along with 16 points from Josh Pazel and 13 points from Vinny Sullivan. Jameson English carried most of the scoring for the Rebels, finishing with 25 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Canfield 46, Warren G. Harding 37 — The Cardinals continued their sizzling start to the season (15-1) with a 46-37 victory over AAC rival Harding on Saturday. Jenna Triveri was a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line while scoring 20 points for Canfield. Nadia McQueen paced the Raiders with 19 points.

Maplewood 58, Chalker 22 — Maplewood dominated Chalker on both ends of the floor on Saturday in a 58-22 victory. The Rockets had three players score in double figures, including Claire Urchek (18 points), Aliah Brumit (13 points) and Morgan Himes (16 points). Tatum Hudak finished with seven points for the Wildcats.

Boardman 54, Cardinal Mooney 34 — After a tight first half, Boardman blew things open with a strong second half to secure a 54-34 win over Cardinal Mooney on Saturday. Mikayla Rivera led the Spartans’ charge with 18 points, while Sarah Bero had 10 points for Boardman. Tori Strines also had 7 points for Boardman. No Cardinals stats were provided.

Salem 52, Minerva 33 — Salem controlled things from the opening tip and pulled away in the third quarter for a 52-33 victory over Minerva on Saturday. Reese Davidson-Chuck had 18 points to lead the Quakers, while Muirin Lesko added 13 points and Abby Knickerbocker had 15 points for Salem. Kyleigh Lippincott had 9 points to lead Minerva.

Chaney 49, Howland 45, OT — Chaney needed overtime to hold off Howland 49-45 on Saturday. Alyssa Brown continued her monster sophomore season with 28 points to lead the Cowgirls. Alexandria Pete added 10 points for Chaney. For the Tigers, Maya Kubancsek scored 21 points, while Teagan Bell added 8 points.

Lakeview 47, Youngstown East 31 — Lakeview rode a big first quarter to a 47-31 victory over Youngstown East on Saturday. Sophie Irwin hit four 3-pointers and finished with 15 points to lead the Bulldogs, while Izzy Isenberg had 10 points. Alyssa Crankfield led the Golden Bears with 14 points and Brianna Wright added 13.

Springfield 45, South Range 38 — Springfield outscored South Range by 15 points in the opening quarter, then held on for a 45-38 victory over the Raiders. Jameka Brungard scored 18 points to lead the Tigers, to go along with 10 points from Ana Tuscano and 9 points from Kara Mullen. Gwen Lowry had 15 points for the Raiders, and Sophia Lucente had 10 points.

Niles 59, Badger 21 — Niles cruised to a 59-21 victory over Badger on Saturday. The Red Dragons got off to a hot start, as Kherington Stanford scored 22 points to pace Niles. Caroline Cormell added 12 points. Gabriella Miller finished with 7 points to lead the Braves.

BOYS WRESTLING

Howland captured first place at the 64th Howland Invitational wrestling tournament in a 15-team field. Patrick Neff (126), Aidan O’Donnell (132), Deacon Mock (138) and Chris Mijavec (190) each took titles in their respective weight classes, while Brayden Cortese (106) had a second-place finish, Cohen Rudesill (150) and Owen Dreher (215) had third-place finishes and Eddie Morrison (144), Aidan Whittenberger (165) and Noah Swope (285) had fourth-place finishes. O’Donnell was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
