BOYS BASKETBALL

Canton Central Catholic 65, Warren JFK 53 — The Eagles put up a fight, but dropped a tight contest to Canton Central Catholic 65-53 on Saturday. Luke Vlacovsky put together 29 points to pace the Crusaders. For JFK, Nick Ryan dominated the scoring with 23 points, while Preston Geracitano added 13 points.

Jefferson 61, Lakeview 51 — After trailing by two at the end of the third quarter, Jefferson outscored Lakeview by 12 in the fourth quarter to pull away 61-51 on Saturday. Anthony Covelta and Dylan Beebe combined for 41 points for the Falcons. Carter Doran scored 18 points to pace the Bulldogs, while Isaiah Lantz finished with 11 points.

Streetsboro 56, Poland 46 — A close game for three quarters was determined in the fourth quarter, as Streetsboro dominated the period for a 56-46 win over Poland. Jack Batten was one of three scorers in double figures for the Rockets with 15 points. Carmine Tukalo was the Bulldogs’ lone double-figure scorer with 21 points, while Oliver McCully added 9 points.

Brookfield 46, Berkshire 43 — Despite a big second quarter from Berkshire, Brookfield dominated the fourth quarter for a 46-43 victory over the Badgers on Saturday. Blake Hammond scored 13 points, while Teagan Barbe added 11 points for the Warriors. Luke Stute paced the Badgers with 15 points.

South Range 65, Mohawk (Pa.) 51 — South Range dominated Mohawk (Pa.) to cruise to a 65-51 victory over the Warriors on Saturday. The Raiders’ Luke Rohan battled with Mohawk’s Bobby Fadden in a scoring duel. Rohan had 28 points for South Range, while Fadden scored 29 points to lead the Warriors. Tommy Titus (11 points) and Graham Heikkinen (10 points) each also scored in double figures for the Raiders.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Canfield 63, Austintown Fitch 34 — The Canfield Cardinals earned their 900th win in program history with a dominant 63-34 victory over AAC foe Austintown Fitch on Saturday. Jenna Triveri paced the Cardinals with 20 points, while Carly Fleming scored 12 and Marina Koenig added 11. For the Falcons, Rachel Spalding led the way with 11 points.

Lowellville 52, Jackson-Milton 36 — Lowellville got hot from beyond the arc, knocking down seven 3-pointers en route to a 52-36 win over Jackson-Milton on Saturday. The Rockets had a balanced scoring effort, led by Sydney Procick with 15 points. Meanwhile, Morgan Lewis had 9 points and McKenna Lewis scored 8 points. Emma Johns paced the Blue Jays with 17 points and Armani Yasin scored 10 points.

Howland 50, Warren G. Harding 44 — In a tightly contested rivalry game, Howland pulled out a 50-44 win over Warren G. Harding on Saturday. Sophia Powell led the Tigers with 18 points, while Maya Kubanscek also scored in double figures with 12 points. Nadia McQueen and Cayden Reed each finished with 11 points for the Raiders.

Badger 51, Chalker 40 — Badger won its seventh game of the season with a 51-40 victory over Chalker on Saturday. The trio of Riley Thomas, Sophia Stanhope and Gabriella Miller provided the bulk of the scoring for the Braves, with 21, 13 and 12 points, respectively. For the Wildcats, Abby Grimm scored 21 points in the defeat.

Springfield 56, Western Reserve 45 — The dynamic duo of Mariana Tuscano and Jameka Brungard led Springfield past Western Reserve 56-45 on Saturday. Tuscano finished with 19 points, to go with 17 points from Brungard. For the Blue Devils, Quincy Miller hit three 3-pointers while scoring 15 points and Kylee Ramsey did most of her damage at the free-throw line with 14 points.

Maplewood 48, Girard 42 — Maplewood built an early lead in the first half, then maintained it in the second half to get past Girard 48-42 and earn its 14th win of the season on Saturday. Claire Urchek scored 12 points to lead the Rockets, while Morgan Himes added 9 points. Then Caylee Wilkes and Makenzee White each finished with 14 points to lead the Indians.

Campbell 37, Valley Christian 20 — Despite trailing at the end of the first quarter, Campbell used a big third quarter to pull away from Valley Christian in a 37-20 victory on Saturday. Rayona Floyd-Brown scored 13 points to lead the Red Devils, while Justice Paris added 7 points. Dynasty Bratton led the Eagles with 8 points on the day.

Salem 45, Ursuline 40 — The Quakers got back to .500 on the season by holding on for a 45-40 win at Ursuline on Saturday. Salem’s Abby Knickerbocker led all scorers with 19 points and was the only player for either team in double figures. Kam Hopkins and Nia Burney each finished with 9 points for the Fighting Irish.

Lakeview 42, Jefferson 31 — Lakeview’s defense held Jefferson to single digits in all four quarters, as the Bulldogs stifled the Falcons 42-31 on Saturday. Mackenzie Stowe scored 13 points to lead Lakeview, while Izzy Isenberg finished with 7 points and Sienna Terry had 6 points. Bella Boyd led Jefferson with 9 points in the loss.

BOYS WRESTLING

The Howland boys wrestling team gritted out a 12th-place finish in a 34-team field at the Joshua Hephner Memorial Tournament on Saturday. Six different wrestlers secured spots on the podium, including Brayden Cortese (106) taking fourth, Aidan O’Donnell (132) getting fifth, Deacon Mock (138) placing seventh, Cohen Rudesill (150) taking eighth, Chris Mijavec (190) placing fifth and Noah Swope (285) getting sixth.

GIRLS WRESTLING

Howland’s Madison Burns turned in a strong performance to earn a second-place finish in the 140-pound class at the Northwest Women’s Fear the Spear Tournament on Satuday. Burns won her early matches with two technical falls and a pin, before falling to Olentangy Orange’s Alanna Smith in the final.
