Turnovers plague YSU women in loss at Purdue Fort Wayne

Turnovers plagued Youngstown State on Wednesday night in a 74-60 road defeat to Purdue Fort Wayne.

The Penguins turned the ball over 26 times against the Mastodons, which led to 30 points for PFW.

YSU was able to keep pace with the Mastodons through the first half, as it went into the locker room at halftime down by eight. But Purdue Fort Wayne blew things open with a big third quarter in which it outscored the Penguins 26-12.

However, YSU was able to bounce back in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Mastodons 26-18. But by then, it was too late.

Senior Jewel Watkins led the Penguins with 18 points on four made 3-pointers, while freshman Erica King hit three 3-pointers en route to scoring 14 points.

Freshman Sophia Gregory pulled down 15 rebounds while scoring six points. Senior Haley Thierry also contributed nine points off the bench.

The Penguins shot 38.2% from the floor in the defeat.

YSU now has a week off before returning home to host Green Bay on Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Beeghly Center.

Starting at $2.99/week.
