Girls hoops brackets released

There’s only a couple more weeks until the girls playoffs began, and on Sunday, the state got the brackets.

For local teams, Division II will play on Feb. 19. The rest of the division games will be played on Feb. 15 unless noted.

It will be the first year under the seven-division format, and the largest teams are Austintown Fitch and Warren G. Harding in Division II.

The Falcons will begin by hosting Euclid on Feb. 19 in a Northeast 1 district semifinal. That same day, Harding will travel to North Canton Hoover for their semifinal.

In Division III, East will travel to Notre Dame-Catheral Latin for a showdown in the Northeast 3 bracket, and City Series rival Chaney will host Akron Garfield Community Learning Center as part of the Northeast 2 pairings. And a pair of local teams are part of the Northeast 5 bracket. Howland will host Bay on, and Boardman will travel to Kent Roosevelt.

In Division IV, Canfield is the top seed and will receive a first-round bye in Northeast 2. The Cardinals won’t play until Feb. 18 as they await the winner of Lakeview and Woodridge. Also in the NE2 is Ursuline, who travels to Cloverleaf.

In Division IV, Northeast 1, Hubbard will host Lutheran West, and in Northeast 3, Salem will host Struthers in a rare local-local matchup. Additionally, West Branch will host Cleveland East Technical. Rounding out Division IV, Niles will travel to Akron Springfield.

Crestview, the top seed in Division V, will host Liberty in Northeast 3. Poland joins the Rebels and will host Fairview, and Cardinal Mooney will travel to third-seeded Canton South.

For D-V, NE2, South Range got the 10th seed and will take on the winner of Pymatuning Valley and Triway. The Lakers and Triway will tip in Andover on Feb. 12 in the bracket’s only section semifinal. Meanwhile, Girard will travel to Ravenna Southeast, and Garrettsville Garfield will make the trip to Wickliffe. The final team in Division V is Champion, who will take a drive to Doylestown Chippewa on Feb. 12.

In the Division VI, Northeast 1 bracket, Grand Valley will await the winner of LaBrae and Hillsdale. The Vikings and Hillsdale play in a sectional semifinal on Feb. 12. Also, Jackson-Milton will host East Canton.

Also in a Division VI sectional semifinal is McDonald, who hosts United on Feb. 12 in the Northeast 2 pairings. As for the sectional finals in the district, East Palestine will travel to Dalton.

The largest concentration of local teams in Division VI is located in Northeast 3.

Newton Falls plays in the sectional semifinal at Canton Central Catholic on Feb. 12. Mineral Ridge will host Our Lady of the Elms, Brookfield travels to Springfield and Columbiana will host Waynedale.

Campbell is the lone local representative in Northeast 4. The Red Devils will make the trip to take on second-seeded Smithville.

Sixteen teams from the Mahoning Valley are in Division VII, and there are a few matchups between locals.

In the Northeast 1 bracket, Warren JFK is the top seed and will host Leetonia, Mathews will travel to Lisbon, Lowellville will welcome Badger and Bristol will make the journey to Middlefield Cardinal.

In Northeast 2, Sebring will travel to Wellsville, and Maplewood will host Windham.

Finally, in Northeast 3, two small private schools will square off when Valley Christian travels to Heartland Christian. Chalker will travel to Open Door Christian, and Western Reserve will host Lake Ridge Academy.
