Guardians sign RHP Junis to 1-year deal

The Cleveland Guardians made another move in the middle of the night.
At 11:38 p.m. on Thursday, ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel announced that Cleveland signed right-handed pitcher Jakob Junis to a one-year, $4.5 million contract.
Junis split time with the Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds last season. He was used in relief and as an opener. Between the two National League Central franchises, he posted a 4-0 record in 24 appearances, including six starts. He recored a 2.69 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP in 67 innings.
The 6-3, 238-pound pitcher spent eight seasons with the Kansas City Royals, San Francisco Giants, Brewers and Reds. Over his career, he had a 42-45 record with a 4.48 ERA. He struck out 51 and walked eight.
His career started to turn the corner in 2023. In his second and finale season with the Giants, he recorded a 3.87 ERA, a career high at that point, and a 4-3 record with 96 strikeouts and 21 walks.
