Division IV-VII All-State honors announced

A pair of area boys took top honors as the first set of All-Ohio teams were released for boys basketball on Wednesday. The teams were announced for Divisions IV, V, VI and VII.

Ursuline’s Jaylen Gunther and Warren JFK’s Nick Ryan received first-team recognition.

Gunther averaged 22.3 points per game for the Irish, who finished 16-6 and 6-0 in the Steel Valley Conference before falling to Hawken in the district semifinal. He made the list in Division IV.

Ryan, meanwhile, got the nod in Division VII. He posted a 26.9 scoring average for the Eagles. Ryan helped lead the Eagles to a 17-10 record and an 8-0 mark in the Portage Trail Conference. They won the district title, but fell to St. Paul in the regional semifinals.

DIVISION IV

A second Irish player made the list and got special mention. Noah Bell received the accolade after averaging 17.3 points as a sophomore.

Canfield point guard Drew Shapiro also got special mention.

West Branch’s Cooper Anderson received honorable mention alongside Ursuline’s Jace Riccardo and Canfield’s Bryce Roberts.

DIVISION V

South Range got a representative on the third team. Luke Rohan’s 20.1 pointer per game averaged was good enough to make the team. Additionally Garrettsville Garfield’s 23.4 average earned him a spot on the third team.

Poland junior Carmine Tukalo received special mention.

A few locals got honorable mention. They were Garrettsville Garfield’s Aidan Hill, South Range’s Graham Heikkinen, Girard’s Dominic Phillips and Pymatuning Valley’s Justin Britton.

DIVISION VI

Campbell standout Josue Rodriguez earned second-team honors after averaging 25.1 points per game and leading the Red Devils to a 21-5 record and 15-1 standing in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference. Rodriguez helped power a Campbell crew that won the district and fell in the regional semifinals.

LaBrae’s Derek Wilson also got second team after posting an average of 22.0 points. He helped lead the Vikings to a 19-6 season and a 13-1 record in the MVAC before dropping a district title matchup with Campbell.

The final second-team member was Grand Valley sophomore Carter Turk, who averaged 21.0 points. The Mustangs fell to Dalton in the district title after going 21-4 and 13-2 in the Northeastern Athletic Conference.

Columbiana’s Seth Struharik made the third team after averaging 21.9 per game. Struharik led the Clippers to a 19-4 record and 13-1 in conference. Columbiana fell to Campbell in the district semifinals.

Grand Valley’s Braden Hart was the only local to receive special mention.

Newton Falls’ Landon McGregor, Campbell’s Jared Colon and Grand Valley’s Solomon Schultz got honorable mention.

DIVISION VII

Jackson-Milton senior Ryen Romigh was one of two locals to get second-team honors. He averaged 25.4 points while helping lead the Blue Jays to a 10-13 mark and 9-7 record in the MVAC. Windham’s Carlos Bruton was the other, averaging 22.0 points for the Bombers, who went 11-12 and 8-7 in the NAC.

Bristol’s Kaiden Kohler was the only area player on the third team. He scored 17.0 points per game for the Panthers, who finished 17-8 and 13-2 in the NAC. They made a playoff run before falling to Warren JFK in the district championship.

The only local to get special mention was Heartland Christian’s Collin Kalaher.

A trio of regional players got honorable mention. They were Bristol’s Jack Berry, Badger’s Alton Winchek and Mathew’s Dominic Toto.
