Guardians TV options become clearer

Thursday is Opening Day in Major League Baseball, and Cleveland Guardians fans will have a slight change in the way the team can view games this year.

Cleveland baseball aired on cable through Bally Sports Great Lakes over the years, but Diamond Sports Group — which operated for the various Bally regional sports networks — filed for bankruptcy in 2024.

FanDuel bought out Bally, and have broadcast the Cleveland Cavaliers and Columbus Blue Jackets this season. But the availability of Guardians games remained in question until recently.

For area viewers, the Guards will be broadcast on “Guardians TV.”

Armstrong reached a deal with MLB just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Games will be broadcast on the former FanDuel Great Lakes channels.

As of Wednesday evening, Spectrum did not have a channel set up for the Guardians, but a representative said the games can be streamed on MLB.TV. The feed will feature the Kansas City Royals broadcast crew.

Also as of Wednesday afternoon, DirectTV was still in the process of finalizing a deal. But a representative said that when a deal is reached, games will be broadcast on channel 662.

Major League Baseball announced CLEGuardians.TV, a direct to consumer streaming option for fans that cut the cord. The package is $99.99 for the year and $19.99 per month.

The streaming package eliminated blackouts that prevented Guardians fans in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania from watching games.

Matt Underwood, Rick Manning and Andre Knott will return to call games. Al Pawlowski and former Indians catcher Chris Gimenez will host the 30-minute pregame show for home games and 15-minute postgame show.

The pregame show will not be broadcast for road games.

This year’s broadcast contributors also expanded. The crew will add Cleveland Cavaliers host Cayleigh Griffin as a backup on-field reporter, and the studio crew will also feature several former Cleveland players. The group will consist of former closer Cody Allen, first baseman Ben Broussard, second baseman Jason Kipnis, outfielder Austin Jackson and relief pitcher Nick Goody.

Starting at $2.99/week.
