SOFTBALL

Canfield 9, West Branch 3 — The Cardinals plated five runs in the top of the fifth inning and added another insurance run in the next frame to get past the Warriors Thursday night. Caylee Ortiz earned the win in the circle for Canfield, pitching 5 1/3 innings while giving up five hits and picking up four strikeouts. The Canfield offense was led by Jenna Triveri with four singles, Sami Economous with a single and a two-run blast, Marina Koenig tallied a single, double and three RBIs, while Alexis Johnson and Leah Figueroa each added two singles. In the loss, Mati Hawk singled twice and Sara Schmidt doubled. Klary McKay is given with the loss, throwing four innings while surrendering eight hits, no walks and striking out two.

Boardman 7, Poland 1 — The Spartans started early and didn’t relent to topple the Bulldogs. Gabi Sferra went the distance for Boardman, allowing four hits, collecting nine strikeouts and walking two. Tori Stines led the Boardman offense with a home run, double, single and three RBIs while Mikayla Rivera added a pair of hits and RBIs and Addie Rudge doubled. For Poland, Lily McDonald took the loss, throwing a complete game and striking out eight.

Mentor 9, South Range 5 — Four runs from the Raiders in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game up was short lived as the Cardinals answered quickly and ran away with the contest. Addison Belviso picked up the win, throwing six innings while allowing seven hits, seven walks and collecting eight strikeouts. The Mentor offense was led by Ireland Rainey with three hits, two of which sailed over the fence for home runs, and three RBIs. Belviso had two hits and Maggie Haydu added a two-run home run. For South Range, Pauline led the way with three hits including a double, Wilt tallied a double, home run and three RBIs and Aey doubled in the loss. On the rubber, Wilt pitched a complete game, fanning 10, walking five and giving up eight hits.

LaBrae 9, Brookfield 4 (5 inn.) — In Game 1 of their double header, the Vikings fell behind after two complete innings, but put up eight runs in the final three frames to earn the win. Leah DeArmitt was credited with the 3 2/3 inning win, coming on in relief in the second frame. DeArmitt found success in the circle and in the batter’s box, allowing one hit, no walks and collected nine strikeouts on the rubber and slapped three hits at the plate, two of which were doubles, and tabbed four RBIs. Shelby Bragg also tripled for LaBrae. In the loss, Madison Obermiyer went the distance, giving up nine hits, walking two batters and striking out three. At the plate, Elaina Boyce led Brookfield with three hits, and Alana Jervis doubled while Aubrey Cabrera collected two RBIs.

LaBrae 9, Brookfield 0 (5 inn.) — In Game 2, the Vikings exploded for six runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back to claim the nightcap of their double header with the Warriors. Vada Allen earned the win on the rubber for LaBrae, tossing four shutout innings, only giving up one hit and two walks and collecting four strikeouts. Riley Rowe blasted a home run, and Morgan Thompson picked up two RBIs for the Viking offense. Alana Jervis was handed the loss, allowing five hits, walking none and striking out none as well.

Mineral Ridge 4, McDonald 1 — Lily Merolillo fanned nine and hurled a three-hit complete game for the Rams in the win over the Blue Devils. Kelcee Dye and Maddie Gerberry paced the Mineral Ridge offense with two hits each, with the latter smacking a triple. Savannah Turek also belted a home run for the rams. McDonald statistics were not submitted.

Hubbard 6, Mathews 1 — The Eagles put four runs across in the bottom of the second inning to propel themselves to the win over the Mustangs. Toeing the rubber in the win was Haleigh Taylor, who threw 5 1/3 innings, fanning three, allowing five hits and four walks. Offensively for Hubbard, Layla Songer slapped two hits, Alyssa Gregory doubled and Taylor helped her cause with a two-run blast. Olivia Matheny was given the loss, tossing four innings, striking out five and allowing five hits and one free pass. Mathews was led offensively by Allie Ramsey, Maddy Hufford and Matheny, who each doubled.

Jackson-Milton 17, Lisbon 1 (5 inn.) — Brena McBeth shut down the Lisbon lineup, striking out eight and only walking one in four innings pitched. Katie Byers went 4-for-4 offensively with a home run. Grace Johns was 2 for 4 with two doubles, Charly Estes also had a pair of doubles in three at-bats and Gabby Kerr went 2 for 3 with a single and a double. Lexi Roush took the loss for the Blue Devils.

Girard 16, Struthers 2 (5 inn.) — Gianna Saxon and Ava Serano led a Girard lineup that scored plenty of runs against the Wildcats. Saxon went 3 for 3 with three RBIs, and Serano finished 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs. Brooklyn Broll earned the win in a complete game. She struck out eight and walked a pair, allowing three hits and an earned run. Katie Morris took the loss for Struthers. She allowed 12 runs on five hits and five walks, striking out four in three innings of work.

Waterloo 16, Campbell 1 — No statistics for either team were submitted.

Crestview 18, Newton Falls 5 — No statistics for either team were submitted.

Chaney 20, Maple Heights 0 — No statistics for either team were submitted.
