BASEBALL

South Range 7, Ursuline 6 — The Fighting Irish plated three in the top of the fifth but the Raiders had the last laugh, walking off the Wednesday contest to earn the win. Leading the come-from-behind at the plate was Lincoln Cleevely with a double and single, Brennen Klasovsky with a pair of singles, Gavin Hiscox slapped three singles and had two RBIs and Julian Tranovich added two singles and drove in two runs. Shaun Updegraff is credited with the win in relief, tossing three innings while striking out two, walking none and giving up two hits. At the plate for Ursuline, Rowan Urbach doubled. Marc Delliquadri was given the loss, giving up a hit while walking and striking out none.

Maplewood 12, Windham 6 — There was no shortage of offense in the Wednesday contest, but the Rockets came out on top to best the Bombers. Leading the offensive charge for Maplewood was Coleton Logan with a home run and Tyson Webster and Ethan Nelson with a pair of hits each. Webster tossed a complete game, allowing 12 hits, three walks and struck out eight. At the plate for Windham, Jack Eye and Dylan McCune each recorded two hits. Girard 8, Warren G. Harding 0 — Starting pitcher Cam Herrick dominated on the mound for the Indians, pitching a four-hit complete game that included 13 strikeouts and only one walk. At the plate, he also contributed a pair of extra-base hits, two RBIs and a run. Also helping out Herrick offensively was Ja’den Royal, who had a game-high three hits and an RBI. Will Hynes recorded a pair of hits as well. Khalef Freeman picked up the loss for the Raiders.

Pymatuning Valley 8, Bristol 6 — The Panthers surrendered five runs over the final two innings as the Lakers mounted a furious comeback to defeat Bristol on a walk-off hit in Andover. Bristol, which led 4-0 after the first inning and 6-3 until the bottom of the sixth, surrendered three runs in the penultimate inning and two more in the seventh. Kaleb Otey had two RBIs and Kaiden Kohler, the Panthers’ starting pitcher, had two hits, including a double, in the loss.

Cardinal Mooney 11, Columbiana 2 — Mooney pitchers Tyler Wilson and Ryan Reese combined for nine strikeouts and allowed just three hits in a lopsided Cardinals win. By the beginning of the third inning, Mooney had a 6-0 lead and was helped by the offensive contributions of Trent Litman, who drew a pair of walks, scored three runs and hit a double. Taco Verroco also doubled for one of his two hits.

Springfield 13, Lowellville 3 — A dominant outing by Payton Novak, along with a few innings Springfield posed crooked numbers, led to the Tigers’ big win over the Rockets. Novak went the distance, striking out three, walking none and surrendering six hits. At the plate for Springfield, Jackson Ensley tallied three hits and drove in four runs, Noah Troggio singled twice and swiped four bases and Michael McAllister drove in a pair of runs. For Lowellville, Liam Bartlett was given the loss in 3 1/3 innings. Offensively for the Rockets, Cody Nolfi singled twice and Bartlett doubled.

Newton Falls 8, Youngstown East 3 — Tyler Stinson doubled and drove in half of the Tigers’ runs in a comfortable victory. Newton Falls took a 4-1 lead in the second inning and never surrendered it back to the Golden Bears, whose comeback fell short in the bottom of the seventh. Leland Vargo drove in two runs in addition to pitching in relief. Georgie Phillips pitched 5.1 innings, striking out nine batters in the process.

Lakeview 7, Mineral Ridge 3 — The Rams fell at home despite two-hit performances from Xavier Klamer and AJ Sandy, the latter of whom tripled. The Bulldogs stayed one step ahead of Mineral Ridge for most of the game and widened their lead with a three-run sixth inning. In the loss, Jack Gillie doubled, while Justin Dailey, Jackson Geddes and Klamer each recorded an RBI. Freshman Preston Kline started on the mound for the Rams and was relieved by Jimi Nolder in the fourth inning. The Ridge pitchers struck out five batters between them and allowed nine combined hits and six earned runs.

SOFTBALL

Maplewood 17, Windham 0 (5 inn.) — The Maplewood bats were hot and the arms of Addison Marker and Emily Perline led the Rockets to the dominant, shutout win over the Bombers. Marker tossed a perfect three innings with five strikeouts to pick up the win. At the plate for Maplewood, Katie Wear belted a home run, a single and drove in five runs while Claire Urchek and Hayley Flinner each singled twice, Reagan Kreisler doubled and had a pair of RBIs and Ava Calvert lent a double. For Windham, Mackenzi Blockinger was given the loss, throwing an inning while striking out one, walking three and giving up four hits. Offensively, Breille Jones doubled in the loss.

Champion 3, Garfield 0 — Gabby Gradishar dazzled in the circle, fanning 20 batters en route to the Golden Flashes win over the G-Men. Gradishar allowed just two hits in the shutout win and walked none. At the plate, Sam Strock and Gradishar each doubled. Juliana Genovese was given the loss, striking out two, walking three and allowing five hits.

Mineral Ridge 12, Sebring 2 (5 inn.) — The Rams took an early lead and kept adding to it throughout their five-inning game in Sebring. Laney Rigley led the team with three hits and was aided by the likes of Kelcee Dye, Sullivan Sandy, Lily Merolillo, Savannah Turek, Maggie Collins and Maddie Gerberry, each of whom recorded at least one hit. Gerberry and Turek both drove in a pair of runs, while Rigley had one RBI. In the circle, Turek threw a complete game, allowing just four hits and one earned run in the process.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Poland 12, Boardman 8 — The Bulldogs defeated the Spartans behind a strong performance from Lucy Harrell, who scored seven of Poland’s goals.

BOYS TENNIS

Mooney 5, East Palestine 0 — The Cardinals swept the Bulldogs Wednesday in each match played. For singles, Max Marino defeated Jameson Kennelly 6-1, 6-0, Dante Turner topped Adam Davis 6-2, 6-2 and Pierce Jones bested Aron McGrath 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, Mihali Frangos and Garrett Bogan beat Morgan Schwartz and Brady Brubaker 6-2, 6-0 and Dimitri Zoumis and Nyi Thant toppled Kaylee Schwartz and Marky Haldiman 6-0, 6-0.

Boardman 5, Howland 0 — The Spartans swept the Tigers in both singles and doubles action. In straight sets, Gabe Hammerton defeated Joshua George (6-0, 6-0), Matthew Amendol beat Cayden Akpogene (6-0, 6-0) and Marcello Jacobson bested Jesse George (6-0, 6-1). In the pair of doubles matches, Boardman’s Cooper Mraz and Jackson Lewis defeated Howland’s Cooper Berry and Gavin Andawasaris in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). Similarly, Johnny Austin and Derek Lewis beat Robin Hakiman and Justin Keating (6-3, 6-1).

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Howland 3, Akron North 2 — It took all five sets (25-14, 25-23, 19-25, 18-25, 15-9) but the Tigers toppled Vikings. Leading the way for Howland was Wesley Fee with 14 kills and 15 digs, Alex Slater with 15 assists, three blocks and nine points, Dylan Nguyen added 10 assists, Freddie Rivera tallied 11 digs and Carter Jones had a pair of aces. Akron North statistics were not submitted.
