BASEBALL
Springfield 9, Lowellville 4 — The Tigers defeated the Rockets 9-4 on Saturday morning at Bob Cene Park. Walks and errors hurt Lowellville, and Springfield was able to capitalize. Jackson Ensley and Payton Novak combined to scatter nine hits with three strikeouts and only issued one walk, with Novak picking up the win. Ensley led the Tigers at the plate with two hits and two RBIs. Ben Carlos and Jack Plant each also added two RBIs. Noah Troggio had a triple in the game, and crossed the plate three times. For the Rockets, Kaden Primous batted in two runs with two hits, while Geno Perry and Liam Bartlett each had a pair of hits, as well.
Canfield 16, Jefferson County (Tenn.) 8 — The Cardinals continued their swing through Tennessee with a 16-8 victory over Jefferson County. Dylan Mancini and Zain Jadallah led Canfield at the plate, with each of them recording three hits, while Jadallah had three RBIs. Jaden Wurst and Louie Zorella both had a pair of hits, as Jake Dovich also batted in three runs for the Cardinals. Joey Gabriel and Sean Harrington combined on the mound for eight strikeouts and six walks.
Garfield 15, Struthers 0 — Aidan Hill and Brandyn Bogucki combined for a no-hitter in the G-Men’s 15-0 victory over the Wildcats on Saturday. Together, the duo threw 11 strikeouts and just two walks, as Garfield racked up 13 hits of its own. Jared Cardinal powered the G-Men’s offense with three hits and four RBIs, as Mason Andrikanich and Carson Norton each put up a pair of hits, as well. Andrikanich also had four RBIs, while Brock Pesicek batted in three more runs.
SOFTBALL
Boardman 2, Champion 1 — Two of the area’s best pitchers dueled on Saturday, with the Spartans coming out on top of the Golden Flashes 2-1 in eight innings. Each team recorded a run in the sixth inning, but Boardman scored the game-winning run in the eighth. Tori Strines picked up the win, throwing eight strikeouts and one walk, while Gabby Gradishar pitched 11 strikeouts and two walks for Champion. For the Spartans, Addie Rudge had a home run, while Ava Freeborough had two hits, including a double. For the Flashes, Ava Sylvester belted a home run, as Ellie Wymer had a pair of hits and Gradishar smacked a double.
Forbush (NC) 10, Lakeview 2 — A pair of five-run innings and five errors proved to be the Bulldogs’ undoing on Saturday in a loss to Forbush. Lakeview had five hits, including two from Kennedy Bartlett and one apiece from Kalyssa Werner, Ella Collins and Annaliese Dejulio. Bartlett and Dejulio batted in the Bulldogs’ two runs. Isabella Isenberg went the distance in the circle, striking out five, while giving up three earned runs on nine hits.
BOYS LACROSSE
Boardman 13, Hawken 7 — The Spartans got off to a hot start in the first half and staved off a rally in the second half by Hawken for a 13-7 win on Saturday. Ashton Hoover and Kevin Montgomery each had hat tricks, as Mike Demetrios scored Boardman’s final goal of the evening. Tony Pinciaro also added two goals during the Spartans’ first quarter scoring surge. Goalkeeper Hunter Richards finished with nine saves in net.
