BASEBALL
Ravenna 13, Niles 1 (6 inn.) — The two-run contest was blown open thanks to the Ravens plating six runs in the fifth inning and five in the sixth to throttle the Red Dragons Friday. The Ravenna offense was paced by Connor Welling with a pair of RBIs, Logan Hysell added a pair of doubles, James Evans doubled and singled, Logan Godley singled twice and Rylan Eldredge doubled and singled as well. Evans also picked up the win on the mound, tossing five innings while striking out six, walking none and allowing five hits. Connor Duncan was given the loss for Niles, throwing 4 1/3 innings while striking out two, walking three and allowing 10 hits.
Sevier County (TN) 14, Canfield 11 — The Smokey Bears caught fire early but the Cardinals clawed back to ultimately knot the contest at nine in the sixth inning. Canfield added a pair of would-be insurance runs in the top of the final frame, but Sevier County tallied five runs in the latter half of the inning to earn the walk-off win. For the Smokey Bears, Eli Koch singled twice, Jacob Greene doubled and singled, James Hooker singled and drove in three runs, Britton St. Clair added a double and Braden Huffaker doubled twice and drove in two runs. Colby Moore was given the win in relief, throwing two innings, striking out one, walking three and allowing four hits. For Canfield offensively, Zain Jadallah belted a home run, two singles and drove in two runs, Anthony Groner also added a home run, a double, a single and drove in four runs and Ryan Weibling tripled and had two RBIs. Jadallah was given the loss, throwing one inning in relief while striking out two, walking two and allowing four hits.
Sevier County (TN) 10, Canfield 3 — The Cardinals’ offense was cooled in the loss to the Smokey Bears. Sevier County plated five runs in the third frame to springboard the team to the win. Leading the charge offensively for Sevier County was Eli Koch with a double, two singles and five RBIs while James Hooker and Hayden Parrish each added doubles and Britton St. Clair tripled. Koch also picked up the complete-game win, fanning eight, walking six and allowing seven hits. For Canfield, Anthony Groner singled twice, Joey Gabriel singled three times, Zain Jadallah tripled and Dylan Mancini drove in a pair of runs. Logan Patellis was given the loss, throwing 1 2/3 innings while walking one, allowing three hits and striking out none.
Mathews 4, East Palestine 3 — The Mustangs plated four runs in their first trip to the plate but the offense cooled for the remainder of the game and the Bulldogs threatened late, but the Mathews defense secured the win. Picking up the win on the bump for Mathews was Kam Kester with six strikeouts and a pair of walks. At the dish for Mathews, Gabe Pesa and Jake Petak each singled twice and Jim Pegg drove in two runs. Phoenix Marvin was given the loss, fanning six and walking four. Marvin doubled and singled in the loss, while Cale Moraski singled twice and Brad Bartels drove in a pair of runs.
Brookfield 4, Liberty 0 — The Brookfield pitching staff stood tall to stymie the Liberty bats, allowing just two hits in the Warriors’ win over the Leopards. Brandon Hardman was given the win, throwing 5 1/3 innings while striking out six, walking five and allowing the two Liberty hits. At the plate, Bryan Reardon led the Brookfield offense with a pair of singles. Clayton Bratton was given the loss, tossing all seven innings while striking out six, walking four and giving up six hits.
Howland 8, LaBrae 1 — The Tigers plated four runs to start the contest and rode that momentum to the win over the Vikings. The Howland offense drilled 11 hits and was led by Luca Fronzaglio and Vincent Weeks with a double and single each, Dominic Santee with a double, single and two RBIs and Aiden Anders lent a pair of singles. Elliot Gebhart tossed a complete game one-hitter, walking two and striking out four in the win. Vince Delvecchio was given the loss in three innings, walking one, allowing six hits and striking out six.
Girard 6, Chaney 4 — The Indians fell behind as the Cowboys plated four runs in the top of the third inning, but answered back with four runs themselves in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ja’den Royal paced the Girard offense with two singles and Joe Marsco lent a double. Dom Phillips was given the win in relief, throwing four innings, striking out seven while walking two and allowing no hits. For Chaney, Langston singled twice and Johnson doubled. Johnson was also given the loss in six innings, fanning six, walking four and scattering seven hits.
Newton Falls 13, East 0 (5 inn.) — The Tigers poured it on early and didn’t give up a run to topple the Golden Bears. The Newton Falls offense was led by Ethan Powell with a pair of doubles and RBIs, Cameron Huff with a double and single, Leland Vargo tripled, singled twice and drove in four runs, Trevor Ruscoe added a pair of RBIs and Tyler Stinson tallied two hits and two RBIs. Nick Reynolds earned the complete-game shutout win, fanning 10, walking four and allowing two hits. Francisco Rodriguez Santos was given the loss in three innings, striking out one, walking two and surrendering 11 hits.
SOFTBALL
Newton Falls 13, East 0 (4 inn.) — The Tigers did all of their scoring in the first two innings in the win over the Golden Bears. Leading at the plate was Hanna Wright and Abby Wolford with a double and two RBIs each while Kirra Howard and Autumn Willaman each drove in two runs. Addison Garro was given the win in three innings, striking out six, walking none and allowing two hits. Colon was given the loss for East in two innings, walking 11, striking out one and allowing three hits.
Newton Falls 21, East 0 (4 inn.) — Eleven runs to open the game set the tone in the demolishing win over the Golden Bears. Leading the offensive onslaught was Kirra Howard with three singles and RBIs, Madalyn Knight with a pair of doubles and four RBIs, Madison Davis added a pair of singles, Autumn Willaman slapped three singles and drove four while Calleigh Swiger doubled. Kylee Lance was given the win in three innings, fanning six, allowing a hit and walking none. Jackson was given the loss, striking out one, walking nine and allowing 12 hits.
Mineral Ridge 20, Western Reserve 2 (5 inn.) — The Rams posted eight runs in the second frame and six more an inning later to throttle the Blue Devils. A host of Mineral Ridge batters contributed to the win, but Lily Merolillo and Maddie Gerberry each drilled a pair of hits and drove in two runs, Kelcee Dye belted a two-run shot and drove in a total of three runs and Sullivan Sandy added a two-run double. Merolillo earned the win in three innings, walking one and allowing three hits and fanning three. Western Reserve statistics were not submitted.
Poland 9, West Branch 3 — The Poland bats were hot and that was personified by two home runs from Elliana Thompson with a pair of home runs, a double and five RBIs in the Bulldogs’ win over the Warriors. Adding the the scorching offense was Leanna Boccieri, Avery Jakubovic and Sydney Bulick each adding a pair of hits. Lillian McDonald picked up the win, giving up six hits, striking out seven and walking none in seven innings. For West Branch, Mati Hawk doubled, added another hit and drove in three while Ellie Tucker lent a pair of hits as well. Klary McKay was given the loss in two innings, giving up four hits, walking three and striking out one.
LaBrae 6, Garfield 1 — A pair of runs in the top of the fourth opened the scoring for the Vikings and would have been enough to topple the G-Men on its own. The LaBrae offense was headed by Riley Rowe with a solo home run and two singles while Leah DeArmitt and Morgan Thompson each lent a pair of singles. Rowe also picked up the complete-game win in the circle for LaBrae, fanning nine, walking two and allowing one hit. The Garfield offense was supplied by Olivia Bailey with a double. Bailey was also given the loss on the rubber, allowing nine hits, walking none and striking out nine.
Girard 16, Chaney 0 — The Girard bats were alive and Chloe Plant tossed a one-hitter in the Indians’ throttling of the Cowboys. In the win in the circle, Plant struck out eight and allowed two walks. At the dish, Girard was led by Quinn Wilster with two RBIs, Caylee Wilkes doubled twice and drove in three runs, Gianna Saxon doubled and had three RBIs, Brooklyn Broll had a pair of singles and RBIs, Kyra Bell doubled and singled and Plant helped her cause with a pair of singles. Stankorb was given the loss in four innings, fanning one, walking eight and allowing 11 hits.
