BASEBALL
Crestview 4, Columbiana 3 — A Rebels’ run in the sixth inning led to the win over the Clippers. The Crestview offense was led by a double and single from Zachary Davis. Luke Julian earned the win, allowing three hits, striking out five and walking three in six innings. Columbiana statistics were not submitted.
Lakeview 5, Poland 3 — Three runs in the first inning and another an inning later would have been enough for Lakeview in the battle of the Bulldogs. Isaiah Lantz led the Lakeview offense with a double and two singles, while Brandon Toot doubled and drove in two runs and Brandon Cash added a double. Nathan Paolucci picked up the win in four innings, allowing four hits, walking four and recording four strikeouts. In the loss, Grady Pitzulo doubled and Tyson Tarajack belted a solo home run. Jacob Hayes was given the loss, throwing four innings while striking out five, walking one and allowing six hits.
Warren G. Harding 5, Jackson-Milton 4 — The Raiders edged out the Blue Jays thanks to a strong pitching performance on the mound. Gummy Hart picked up the win with six strikeouts and two walks. Hart also helped his cause at the plate with a pair of hits and Airiz Coleman Bay drove in two runs for Harding. James Coryle was given the loss, fanning three while walking five. At the plate for Jackson-Milton, CJ Malutek drilled three hits including a double.
Canfield 12, Greeneville (TN) 2 — The Cardinals handedly topped the Greene Devils thanks to an explosive offensive output. Leading the Canfield offense was Ryan Weibling with a pair of singles, Zain Jadallah with two doubles and two RBIs, Jake Dovich singled twice and drove in two runs and Joey Gabriel doubled. Weibling was also credited with the win in 5 1/3 innings, striking out two, walking two and allowing three hits. In the loss, Maddox Bishop doubled and Will Harmon tripled. Carson Quillen was given the loss in three innings, striking out two, walking three and allowing four hits.
Mineral Ridge 7, Western Reserve 1 — Despite the Blue Devils scoring in the first inning, the Rams answered back in a big way to pick up the win. Leading the way for the Mineral Ridge offense was Jack Gillie, Jackson Geddes, Gavin Harding and Andrew Gillie each drilled two while Xavier Klamer belted a solo home run. Klamer picked up the win in six innings, giving up three hits, five walks and nine strikeouts. Western Reserve statistics were not submitted.
Girard 13, Springfield 3 (6 inn.) — The Indians scored in each inning at the plate and exploded for 17 hits to topple the Tigers. The offensive onslaught was led by Joe Marsco with a pair of doubles, a single and three RBIs, Ja’den Royal added a pair of singles and three RBIs, Zach Ward doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs, Kaiden Clare singled twice, Dylan Latell doubled and drove in two runs, Evan Tuttle drove in two runs, Dom Phillips doubled and singled and Will Hynes added a double. Royal was also given the win, tossing 4 2/3 innings while striking out five, walking four and allowing three hits. In the loss, Fusco singled twice and was given the loss on the mound, throwing 3 1/3 innings and gave up 12 hits, struck out one and walked two.
Waterloo 11, Lowellville 1 — The Vikings broke the 1-1 deadlock in a big way with nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to top the Rockets. Trevor Simons led the Waterloo offense with a pair of hits and RBIs while Vincent Mori and Mason Biltz each drove in two runs and Matthew Ralston had three RBIs. Biltz was also given the win on the mound, striking out seven, walking none and scattering four hits. In the loss, Geno Perry singled twice. Tyler Tuscano was credited with the loss in 3 2/3 innings, striking out three, walking four and allowing four hits.
Badger 11, Fairport Harding 1 (5 inn.) — The Braves plated six runs in the first two innings and cruised to the win over the Skippers. Tyler McWilliams quieted the Fairport bats, tossing a complete game while walking two, striking out four and allowing four hits. At the plate, Lewis Flowers singled twice. In the loss, Nate Wright tallied a pair of hits.
Garfield 8, McDonald 1 — Five runs in the bottom of the second paved the way for the G-Men to best the Blue Devils. Warnick’s complete game also helped in the win. The hurler gave up two hits, four walks while fanning four to pick up the win. At the plate for Garfield, Bogucki slapped a pair of singles and drove in two runs, Cardinal had three hits and RBIs, Norton added three hits and Pesicek singled twice. For McDonald, Hickox was given the loss in two innings, striking out five, walking four and allowing four hits.
Heartland Christian 5, Campbell 2 — The Lions plated three runs in the top of the first inning and it was smooth sailing from there in the win over the Red Devils. Christian Hamilton was given the win, tossing 4 2/3 innings with 11 strikeouts, one walk and two hits. At the plate, Paul Bender doubled and singled and Brady DeSantis added two singles. For Campbell, Pano Kolidakis was given the loss in 6 1/3 innings, striking out 11, walking seven and scattering six hits.
Bristol 8, Mathews 2 — After surrendering the one run lead they had in the top of the fifth, the Panthers plated three a half-inning later and four more in the bottom of the six to top the Mustangs. The Bristol batters were led by Diesel Williams with two singles, Ronald Imhoff singled twice and drove in two runs and Brock Pierce tallied three RBIs. Williams was also given the win on the bump, striking out five, walking three and allowing five hits in the complete game. For Mathews, Petak doubled and singled. Nicala was given the loss, throwing 5 1/3 innings while fanning one, walking three and allowing seven hits.
Ursuline 9, Fitch 5 — Four Fighting Irish runs in the top of the second proved to be the difference maker in the win over the Falcons. Dom Polkovitch picked up the win on the bump, throwing 5 1/3 innings while walking one, fanning four and giving up nine hits. At the plate, Rowan Urbach doubled and singled, AJ Snyder singled twice and Jake Bednar doubled and drove in two runs. Mason Petridis was given the loss in 1 2/3 innings, allowing three hits, three walks and picking up one strikeout. At the plate for Fitch, Gavin Loomis was a perfect 4-for-4 with all singles, Brady Stovall doubled, Frank Senediak doubled and Ross Harris drove in a pair of runs.
University School 7, Cardinal Mooney 1 — The Preppers iced the Thursday contest with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to topple the Cardinals. Leading the way for University School at the dish was Bryce Fielding with a pair of hits, Tucker Greer doubled and singled and Cameron Ryan doubled, singled and drove in two runs. Crew Bellan was credited with the win, allowing a hit, two walks and striking out four through five innings. Ben Oddis was given the loss for Mooney, tossing three innings while striking out three, walking four and allowing six hits.
Niles 2, Struthers 1 — A fierce pitcher’s duel was decided by one run in favor of the Red Dragons over the Wildcats. Brixton Gilmour stymied the Struthers offense, tossing a complete game while fanning eight, walking one and allowing three hits. For Niles at the plate, Connor Duncan, Gilmour, Brian Parsons and Jonathan Barrell each singled. Isaac Wolfe was given the loss, tossing 5 1/3 innings while striking out seven, walking none and allowing four hits. At the plate, Travis McMurray singled twice for Struthers.
LaBrae 1, Newton Falls 0 — The Vikings lone run came courtesy of an RBI from Colton Hall in the close win over the Tigers. Lending to the win offensively was Easton Armstrong with a triple and single and Hall with a pair of singles. Austin Rowe went the distance in the shutout win, fanning five, walking none and allowing four hits. At the plate for Newton Falls, Leland Vargo singled twice. Vargo was also credited with the loss on the mound, striking out three, walking two and scattering seven hits.
SOFTBALL
Champion 13, Southeast 1 (5 inn.) — Thanks to seven runs in the second frame and a crushing pitching performance, the Golden Flashes crushed the Pirates. Gabby Gradishar picked up her seventh win of the season, fanning 13, allowing two hits and walking none in the complete game. At the plate, Jonna Strock tallied two home runs, singled and drove in four runs, Sam Strock blasted a grand slam, doubled and drove in five runs, Adalyn McIntosh doubled and Gradishar drove in two runs for Champion. Lily Hayes was given the loss, fanning none and walking one. Offensively for Southeast, Morgan Muncy tripled and singled.
Chalker 14, Pymatuning Valley 11 — The Wildcats claimed the shootout over the Lakers, drilling 20 hits on the way to the win. The Chalker offense was led by Morgan Strock with perfect 5-for-5 day at the plate including two doubled and a triple, Kelsey Kren doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Abby Grimm doubled and singled, Riley Ashcraft tripled twice, singled and drove in three runs, Tatum Hudak doubled twice, singled and had a game-high five RBIs and Gabby Hromada added a pair of doubles. Hudak also picked up the complete-game win, fanning 11, walking four and allowing 12 hits. For PV, McKenna Jordan tallied three singles and drove in two runs while Peyton Hudson, Kendall Gray and Macie Payne each tallied two hits. Hannah Young was given the loss in six innings, striking out six, walking three and allowing 20 hits.
Canfield 9, Chardon 7 — The 7-7 tie was broken thanks to a Leah Figueroa go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to put the Cardinals on top and pick up the win over the Hilltoppers. Adding to the Canfield win was Sydney Lutz with two doubles and a single, Sofia Castronova added a double and a single and Marina Koenig singled twice. Cam Hrina picked up the win in relief, throwing the final 3 1/3 innings while striking out seven. Chardon statistics were not submitted.
Rootstown 9, Maplewood 8 (8 inn.) — The Rovers handed the Rockets their first loss of the season in a Thursday thriller. The Rockets tied the game with two runs in the top of the fifth and opened the extra frame with three runs, but the Rovers scored four in the bottom of the eighth to pick up the walk-off win. Rootstown’s offense was led by Thomas with a double, two singled and two RBIs, Kamenash singled twice and drove in two runs, Hammerschmidt doubled and singled twice and Giebel added a double and single. Gardner picked up the win in four innings, allowing12 hits, walking none and striking out one. For Maplewood, Urchek and R. Krieg each singled three times, Marker doubled twice and singled, L. Krieg singled twice and Wear homered, singled and drove in three runs. Perline was given the loss, throwing 1 2/3 innings in relief, striking out four, walking two and allowing six hits.
McDonald 2, Poland 0 — The close contest was claimed by the Blue Devils thanks to a run in the first and sixth innings. Aubrey Evans picked up the shutout win in the pitcher’s duel, striking out 16, walking five and allowing two hits. Evans also helped her cause at the plate with a pair of hits. Leanna Boccieri doubled for the Bulldogs. Lillian McDonald was given the loss, striking out nine, walking one and allowing five hits in the complete game in the circle.
Girard 23, East 1 (5 inn.) — The Indians drilled 14 hits and dominated at the plate to top the Golden Bears. The Girard offense was led by Quinn Wilster with four singles, Caylee Wilkes tripled, doubled twice, singled and drove in four runs, Gabby Doran doubled, singled and had two RBIs and Riley Collins and Anaya Washington each had two RBIs. Brooklyn Broll was given the win in two innings, striking out five, walking one and giving up no hits. The Girard pitching staff threw a combined no-hitter. Ellie was given the loss in 3 1/3 innings, striking out one, walking 12 and giving up eight hits.
Badger 16, Fairport Harding 3 (5 inn.) — The Braves posted some crooked numbers in their first two innings at the dish to throttle the Skippers Tuesday. A smattering of Badger batters posted a hit, but the leaders for the Braves were Samantha Bradbury with two singles, Kyleigh Hall tripled and drove in two runs, while Riley Thomas, Autumn Yesko and Skylar Demarco all drove in two runs a piece. Bradbury also picked up the win, fanning 10, walking one and allowing four hits in five innings. Jillian Justinger singled twice for the Skippers while Natalie Phillips added a pair of RBIs. Arianna Figueroa was given the loss in 1/3 innings, striking out none, walking seven and giving up no hits.
Mineral Ridge 17, Western Reserve 2 (5 inn.) — Seven runs in both the second and third innings propelled the Rams to the win over the Blue Devils. Leading the offensive charge for Mineral Ridge was Kelcee Dye with a three-run home run, double and four RBIs, Laney Rigley and Megan Haynie drove in two runs while Sullivan Sandy and Maddie Gerberry each doubled and Savannah Turek tripled. Lily Merolillo picked up the win, throwing two innings while allowing four hits and four strikeouts.
Boardman 9, Howland 3 — The Spartans scored early and kept the lead to carry themselves to the win over the Tigers. The offensive charge was led by Alex Ward with three singles and a pair of RBIs, Kenzie Cherne chipped in a pair of singles and RBIs, Laci Jurus drove in two runs and Tori Strines and Addie Rudge added a double each. Gabi Sferra was given the win after three innings, striking out three, walking five and allowing a hit. In the loss, Madison Schmitz doubled and singled for Howland. Maya Kubancsek was given the loss, throwing five innings while striking out four, walking seven and surrendering eight hits.
LaBrae 16, Newton Falls 1 (5 inn.) — The Vikings put up nine runs in the bottom of the first to set the tone early in the win over the Tigers. LaBrae drilled 15 hits, lent by Riley Rowe with a home run, double and five RBIs, Shelby Bragg singled twice, Vada Allen had three singles and RBIs, Syrina Gantt-Gargano doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs, Patricia Horton drove in two runs and Madison Johnson singled twice. Leah DeArmitt tossed a complete game, striking out 12, walking two and allowing one hit. Kylee Lance doubled for the lone Newton Falls hit. Addison Garro was given the loss, throwing 1/3 innings, walking two, striking out one and scattering five hits.
JV SOFTBALL
Columbiana 14, Toronto 0 (5 inn.) — The Clippers toppled the Red Knights thanks to eight runs in the first and six in the third innings. Nearly all of Columbiana’s batters tallied a hit, but the offensive charge was led by Hogan with a double and single, Marshall singled twice and drove in three runs while Sperling, James and Toker each doubled and drove in two runs and Smith tripled. Smith also picked up the win in 4 2/3 innings, racking up 10 strikeouts, walking none and allowing four hits. For Toronto, Caraballo doubled and was also given the loss in the circle, striking out three, walking eight and allowing nine hits in four innings.
