BASEBALL
Poland 14, Columbiana 0 (5 inn.) — The Bulldogs blanked the Clippers thanks to an offensive onslaught and domination on the mound. Jacob Hayes went the distance, tossing a shutout behind 10 strikeouts while giving up a hit and two free passes. At the dish, Kelly Memo singled twice, Joe Zuccaro doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Hayes and Tyson Tarajack each drove in three runs and Stephen Kopkash added a pair of RBIs. Reese Roush was given the loss, striking out three while walking five and allowing two hits in 1 1/3 innings.
Struthers 11, Springfield 3 — Four runs in the fifth and sixth innings propelled the Wildcats to the win over the Tigers. In the loss, Noah Troggio and Cooper Ensley each tallied two hits while Troggio drove in two runs. Struthers statistics were not submitted.
McDonald 8, Girard 5 — The Blue Devils plated five runs in the top of the fifth inning to break the 3-3 deadlock and claim the contest over the Indians. Chayse Hickox nearly went the distance, throwing 6 1/3 innings while striking out eight, giving up just as many walks and allowing one hit. At the plate, Jaxson Candel doubled and singled, Nick Larson singled twice and drove in two runs and Brady Klockner doubled for McDonald. Kaiden Clare struck out six and gave up six hits and three hits through six innings of work in the loss.
Warren G. Harding 12, Niles 2 — The Raiders set the tone early with four runs in the top of the opening frame and rode that momentum to a 10-run win over the Red Devils. At the dish for Harding, Gummy Hart recorded three hits and three RBIs, Jacob Borsic and Elias Johnson each drove in two runs, Cory Kuhn doubled and Airiz Coleman Bey slapped two singles. Hart picked up the win on the mound, striking out four while allowing one free pass and three hits through four innings. Brian Parsons threw 3 2/3 innings while striking out one, allowing seven hits and five walks in the loss. Anthony Mymo singled twice for Niles.
Cardinal Mooney 4, Fitch 0 — A fierce pitching duel lasted nearly the entire game but the Cardinals broke the deadlock with two runs in the sixth inning to best the Falcons. Ben Oddis and Will Petty both doubled and Kaden Reese tripled for the Mooney offense. Oddis also picked up the win one the mound thanks to six innings of shutout pitching, striking out six and giving up just as many hits. Frank Senediak doubled and singled, and Rocco Diflorio and Brady Stovall each added two singles in the loss for Fitch. Jaden Wallace is credited with the loss, throwing 1 1/3 innings in relief while striking out two, walking three and giving up one hit.
Garfield 9, Mogadore 5 — A close game was quickly blown apart thanks to a six-run fifth inning from the G-Men to best the Wildcats. For Garfield, Hill doubled twice and singled and Bogucki drove in two runs. Neikirk picked up the win on the bump, striking out five while walking four and allowing nine hits through five innings. The Mogadore offense was led by Noah Hopkins with three hits, Maddox Smith and Ryan Woitas both added a pair of singles and Jake Hopkins tallied two RBIs. Max Shannon was given the loss, throwing 4 2/3 innings and striking out three while surrendering four walks and three hits.
Bristol 14, Conneaut 3 (5 inn.) — The Panthers plated crooked numbers all but one inning they were up to bat to topple the Spartans. Leading the offensive attack for Bristol was Diesel Williams with a double, two singles and three RBIs, Jonas Miller tallied three singles and RBIs and Christian Van Ness doubled and singled. Laverne Miller tossed a complete game, striking out eight while surrendering a pair of hits and walks. Gabe Ghiz was credited with the loss, giving up seven hits, two walks and striking out none.
Boardman 4, Massillon Washington 0 — No statistics for either team were submitted.
Chaney 16, Campbell 12 — No statistics for either team were submitted.
SOFTBALL
Bristol 13, Windham 9 — The Bristol bats were hot in the win over the Bombers. Cadence Imhoff was a home run shy of the cycle while driving in a game-high five runs and Reagan Macklin singled twice and tallied four RBIs. Macklin also struck out six in the circle for Bristol. WIndham statistics were not submitted.
Canfield 8, Poland 4 — The Cardinals staved off a late push by the Bulldogs in the final frame to earn the win. Caylee Ortiz threw 6 1/3 innings, giving up five hits and one earned run. At the plate, Ortiz helped her cause with two singles while Sydney Lutz blasted a two-run shot and had an RBI triple, Alexis Johnson singled three times and Marina Koenig doubled. For Poland, Cassie Blanch blasted a home run and Elliana Thompson doubled twice in the loss.
Fitch 13, Jackson-Milton 3 (5 inn.) — The Falcons plated six runs in their first two innings at bat and cruised to the win over the Blue Jays. The Fitch offense tallied 15 hits and was led by kaliana Ray with three singles and a pair of RBIs and stolen bases, Alyssa Rodgers added a triple and single, Abby Toth smacked a pair of doubles and drove in two, Samantha Severn doubled, singled and tallied two RBIs and Bella Baumgart doubled, singled twice and drove in four. Tori Greathouse picked up the win. For Jackson-Milton, Emma Johns doubled and Brena McBeth belted a solo home run. McBeth was credited with the loss in the circle.
West Branch 11, Howland 4 — The West Branch bats were alive in Thursday’s contest as the Warriors drilled 17 hits en route to the win over the Tigers. Nearly all who came to the plate recorded a hit, but the Warriors were led by Ellie Tucker with a home run, single and two RBIs, Mati Hawk with a trio of singles, Sara Schmidt added a double and single, Klary McKay doubled, singled and drove in three runs, Addi Craven doubled and singled twice, Zoe Metzgar doubled twice and tallied four RBIs and Josie Milliken doubled. Tucker picked up the win in the circle, striking out two while giving up four hits and two walks through four innings. Madison Schmitz doubled and singled for Howland and Brianna Deeter doubled and drove in three runs. Brooke Tatar was given the loss after tossing a complete game while striking out and walking three.
Girard 14, McDonald 4 (6 inn.) — The Girard offense exploded in the bottom of the fifth inning, plating eight runs to give the Indians a commanding lead that lasted to top the Blue Devils. Chloe Plant threw all six innings to earn the win, striking out seven while allowing five hits and two walks. Kyra Bell recorded two singles, Plant drove in two runs, Caylee Wilkes doubled and Gianna Saxon and Brooklyn Broll each tripled in the win for Girard. Aubrey Evans was given the loss in relief, throwing 1 1/3 innings while striking out two and allowing four hits and two walks.
Newton Falls 19, Chaney 6 (6 inn.) — The Tigers started off hot with seven innings in the opening frame and cruised to the 13-run win over the Cowboys. The Newton Falls offense was led by Kylee Lance with a home run, double, single and four RBIs, Abby Wolford with a pair of singles and RBIs, Hanna Wright and Kirra Howard each doubled and drove in three runs, while Autumn Willaman and Addison Garro each collected two RBIs. Lance also picked up the win on the rubber, throwing a complete game with 11 strikeouts while allowing six walks and four hits. For Chaney, L. Stankorb doubled, Langston singled twice and Al-Karain drove in two runs. In the circle, G. Stankorb was given the loss, striking out five, walking nine and surrendering eight hits through five innings.
