Local fighters take to the ring in ‘Easter Bash 2025’

YOUNGSTOWN — A 12-bout, all-amateur fight card, presented by area trainer and promoter Jack Loew, is set for today at the Metroplex Expo Center, 1020 Motor Inn Drive, Girard.

“Easter Bash 2025” will feature fighters from four local gyms with hopefuls from Akron, Cleveland, Kentucky, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. also set to answer the bell.

“As always, all fighters on the card are evenly matched with two heavyweight masters championship belts up for grabs,” Loew said. “This card is a stepping-stone in the careers of several boxers as they continue to move up through the ranks.”

The main event will pit local favorite and master heavyweight champion, Tony Scandy (4-1, 4 KO’s), as he takes on Michigan’s undefeated master heavyweight titlist, Dan Drumm.

Cardinal Mooney High’s rising star Chris Vass, who trains out of Loew’s South Side Boxing Club and is coming off two consecutive victories by KO, will go for the KO trifecta when he takes on Julian Lewkewicz of Erie, Pa., in the night’s co-main attraction.

“Tony Scandy has proven that he is deserving of his master heavyweight championship title, while Dan Drumm, who is undefeated, is also deserving of his ranking in Michigan,” Loew said. “The pairing features two very big hitters and should pan out to be an extremely exciting match up.

“Chris Vass is a rising amateur star who is known as a relentless pressure fighter, a true heavy hitter, but I am sure that Erie’s Julian Lewkewicz will have something to say about the outcome. Chris is getting better every time he steps into the ring and is one of the hardest workers, both in and out of the gym, which is why his ceiling in the sport is so high. He is coming off a stellar performance in his last bout, an international match-up versus Ireland in Pittsburgh in which he won by first-round knockout.”

In addition to Scandy and Vass, other locals featured on the card include Kinglsey Wade, Shaleek Cooke and Dontrail Burke of SSBC, KaVeon Cotton, John Davis, Darius Harshaw and Stephen Medved of Tom Cordell and Sam Calderone’s Golden String Boxing Club, Aiden St. Clair and Austin Gibson who will represent trainer Keith Burnside’s Burnside Athletic Club while former middleweight champion of the world Kelly Pavlik, whose gym Ghost Boxing, is represented by Juan Jauregui.

“Another young man that I am really excited about is 12 year-old Dontrail Burkes,” Loew said. “He scored a first-round TKO, also against Ireland, his last time out. He is a fearless competitor who attacks the body relentlessly and has the potential to go really far in boxing.”

General Admission is $25, ringside seats are $50 with tables of eight available for $400.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with the first fight hitting the bell at 7 p.m.
