Locals highlight Easter amateur boxing show

GIRARD — Tony Scandy of South Side Boxing Club and Austin Gibson of Burnside Athletic Club scored a unanimous decision and split decision, respectively, over their opponents to highlight action at Jack Loew’s ‘Easter Bash 2025’ amateur boxing show at the Metroplex Expo Center on Saturday night.

The 11-bout, all-amateur show had Scandy, who is trained by Loew, topping Dan Drumm of Michigan in the heavyweight masters main event while Gibson, who trains under the watchful eye of Keith Burnside, defeated Alliance’s Drew Mercer in the 145-pound co-main attraction.

Scandy and Drumm gave it all they had and were visibly tiring by the end of the third round, while Mercer kept coming at Gibson with the latter able to fend off his opponent for the win.

Making his bid for fight of the night was Cardinal Mooney sophomore Chris Vass, also of South Side Boxing Club, who defeated Erie’s Julian Lewkowicz when the referee stopped the contest in the second round of their 138-pound scrap.

Vass was aggressive and smooth against Lewkowicz, using everything in his arsenal against his opponent from the Keystone State.

In action involving other local fighters, SSBC’s Dontrail Burkes, Shaleek Cooke and Kingsley Wade were all victorious.

Burkes scored a split decision over Antonious Harrison of Detroit in a 115-pound pairing, Cooke won by unanimous decision over Charles Williams of Louisville’s FFLA Gym, while Wade led off the evening’s action by posting a split decision over Pennsylvania’s Paul Agnew in a 75-pound match-up.

Juan Jauregui, who was representing Kelly Pavlik’s Ghost Boxing Club, was a winner by unanimous decision over Pennsylvania’s Conner Bollinger at 130 pounds, while a 175-pound pairing had Dragon Raduscwicz of Washington, D.C., who was bloodied during the fight, rallying for a victory over Aiden St. Clair of Burnside A.C. when the referee stopped the contest in the third round.

The other three fights on the card featured Seven Earth, a 291 pounder from Pennsylvania, scoring a unanimous decision over Michigan’s Nate Morehouse in the evening’s first heavyweight battle, while the second heavyweight pairing featured Detroit’s Darius Parlor defeating Eddie Burnom of Illinois by third-round stoppage.

The final pairing, a 175-pound scrap, had Michigan’s Bryant Brown in control of all three rounds en route to a unanimous decision over Frank Henious of Pennsylvania.
